Manage Your Email List

We recently changed the company name from Mirchandani Consulting to Marketing Cafe. With this rebranding came this new URL…and new email addresses. So over the last few days, we’ve been working to transition our profiles on the various lists to which we belong.

Turns out, on many lists, we don’t have this option. We can either leave the old email address on the list or unsubscribe altogether. So as we phase out of the old emails, what do you think we’re doing on the lists that don’t give us any other option? Right, opting out…

How do you make sure your subscribers don’t face this same dilemma?

Manage Your Email List

Check Your Last Email
Pull up the last email you sent and scroll down to the bottom. This is where the “disclaimer” stuff usually lives; opt-out links, company name, mailing address, etc.

Do you see an “update your profile” link? If yes, congratulations. Go get a cup of coffee and gloat in the knowledge your list members can keep in touch with you even after they change their contact information.

If no…all is not lost, but your cuppa Joe will need to wait.

Edit Your Template

Your goal here is to add a merge field that would provide a link to your list member’s profile. You might do this by duplicating your last campaign, as if you’re sending out a new one and editing the footer. Or you might do it by editing a template and saving your changes for future use. Check with your provider for specifics on adding merge fields to templates.

Test The User’s Experience

Once you’ve made these changes, try it out. Send yourself a test message and try to update your profile. Is it easy to use? Are the instructions clear?

If yes,  you may NOW go get a cup of coffee and gloat in the knowledge your list members can keep in touch with you even after they change their contact information…
